Some further information on the impact that chronic disease is having on the population

It’s estimated that more people will die in the next 15 years from chronic diseases than were lost in both world wars (*)

However most chronic diseases are preventable and treatable from good exercise/activity and good nutritional diet.

This is having a criplling effect of the NHS service and the levels of health in our nation have reached crisis, which could bankrupt the NHS!! (**)

  • Obesity will cost the NHS £45 BILLION by 2050
  • Childhood cancers and heart disease will increase (1/3 children clinically obese)
  • The NHS spends £1 MILLION an hour on diabetes care (10% of it’s annual budget), £9 MILLION this year
  • Physical inactivity costs the NHS £1.5 MILLION per year

Experts agree that a lack of physical activity has an astonishing breadth of harmful health effects and that exercise has a powerful effect on both treatment and prevention of chronic disease and obesity, as well as premature death.

REPs Council Member Ann Gates recently commente “In an ideal world I’d like to see a large-scale exercise initiative that works with EACH patient – every patient, every visit, every treatment plan! I totally agree with Ann on this and feel physical activity should be discussed with every patient on every visist, asking them on their physical activity levels so it can go on file along with the other data that we record, bp, hr, bmi & smoking!

It might sound like an ideal world, but think do we still want the human race to be able to enjoy this world in the years to come!
